International law firm HFW is hosting its fourth annual P&I week from October 15-17, 2019 in London.

Executives from the P&I industry are welcome to attend the event, the theme for this year being: IMO 2020: Claims and Catastrophes.

The theme centres around a fictional case study set in January 2020 involving a voyage from Singapore to South Africa, a main engine failure and a collision between two vessels in South Africa. HFW said the facts of the case study give rise to a number of claims, catastrophes and other potential hurdles linked to the new IMO 2020 regulations, which come into effect on January 1, 2020.

P&I Week 2019 consists of six different presentations discussing the new regulatory background and the potential impact for the industry outside of the regulatory context. As part of this, the presenters will consider how the new regulations may impact and link to other issues, and will also examine the implications for insurers arising out of IMO 2020 generally and in relation to the case study, with variations to tease out other issues relating to compliance (or otherwise) with Marpol Annex VI.
