Cuxhaven gears up for offshore

August 30 - A new berth and ramp have been inaugurated at Niedersachsen Ports' Cuxhaven offshore terminal, Germany.

The terminal now offers 1,340 m of berthing space with water depths of up to 11.6 m. The new ramp will allow for heavy loads to be loaded directly onto ro-ro ships. Approximately EUR9.5 million (USD11.35 million) was invested in the infrastructure improvements, says Niedersachsen Ports.

The infrastructure improvements were made following Siemens' decision to establish a wind turbine factory in Cuxhaven.

The new terminal facilities will be used for the transportation and load-out of 20 jacket foundations for Dong Energy's Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind farm. The first jackets are expected to arrive in October. The project is scheduled for completion in March 2018.
