In partnership with the United Nations, Deutsche Post DHL Group (DPDHL) has sent a disaster response team (DRT) to deliver emergency supplies to the Bahamas.

Following hurricane Dorian, the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) chartered a widebody aircraft to deliver the first tranche of relief aid to Lynden Pindling International Airport, Nassau. DPDHL moved this cargo to a World Food Programme-operated warehouse for onward distribution in Freeport, Nassau and Abaco.

Gilberto Castro, senior director of operations Colombia, and GoHelp manager for DPDHL Americas, said: “Following a natural disaster, it is imperative to respond quickly to ensure vital, life-saving relief supplies are available to people in need.”

DHL’s response team has forwarded some 123.3 tonnes of cargo to the area already. The team helps to prevent logistical bottlenecks in disaster affected areas.
