USA-based engineered heavy lifting and transport company, Global Rigging & Transportation (GRT), has completed the demolition of a heavily corroded ship-to-shore (STS) crane at the port of San Juan in Puerto Rico.

Usually a crane is taken apart piece by piece, but the port authority decided that, in order to save time, the crane should be demolished.

As part of this unconventional method, sections of the structure were removed and explosives were used to weaken the crane. Large forklift trucks then pulled at wire ropes attached to the crane until it fell in a controlled manner.

The toppling of the 180 ft (55 m) crane was completed on October 28.
