LOC Group has completed its marine warranty surveyor (MWS) contract for the Qatargas North Field Bravo expansion project.

LOC was responsible for reviewing the procedures and engineering for the design, fabrication, load-out, sea transportation, installation and hook-up of a new living quarter module and its associated jacket and piles. The units were installed alongside the existing living quarter platform offshore Qatar.

LOC also provided an independent engineering review and assistance for the site-specific assessment and installation of a temporary accommodation jack-up, as well as vessel assurance services.

For the project, Qatargas awarded Rosetti Marino Group the EPICC contract for the design, procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning of the living quarter platform. The structures were built locally at the Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-Kom) yard in Ras Laffan.

Heerema Marine Contractors’ (HMC) vessel Aegir lifted the 1,000-tonne structure from the quayside. The vessel then transported the unit, together with the installation piling, to the offshore site and positioned the jacket.

Aegir returned to the N-Kom yard to pick up the 3,000-tonne topsides ready for installation the following day.

Dr. Aureliano Schirripa, principal consultant at LOC Group, said: “The project was very challenging because the operations were carried out without interrupting the Qatargas productions, and involved intense risk assessment workshops by all parties involved. This project marks an exciting continuation to LOC’s collaboration with Rosetti Marino Group and was the first time a major offshore structure was constructed entirely in Qatar. We have made significant progress in Qatar in recent years and we look forward to building on this momentum in due course.”
