Wallenius and Swedish Orient Line (SOL) have joined forces to service the northern European market with five ro-ro ships.

Wallenius SOL plans to acquire four LNG-powered ro-ro ships.

Wallenius SOL will transport forestry products and other goods in a network covering the Gulf of Bothnia, the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. The first customers to sign long-term agreements are Stora Enso and Metsä Board.

The company plans to order four LNG-powered newbuild ro-ro ships, which are expected to be delivered by 2021.

"Together we can offer a strong mix of experience and competence, which can support a growing forest industry," said Ragnar Johansson, managing director at Wallenius SOL.

Knut Hansen, senior vice president logistics global at Stora Enso added. "The partnership with Wallenius SOL will enhance our opportunities to compete globally, while at the same time the new vessels will reduce environmental impact.”
