Loynes handles Loy Yang generator

Project cargo specialist L.C. Loynes & Associates has coordinated the relocation of a replacement generator stator for the Loy Yang power station in Latrobe Valley, Australia.

Manufactured in Japan and shipped via a chartered vessel into Melbourne, the generator, which weighed 250 tonnes, was offloaded directly onto a specially engineered trailer assembled on site.

It was transported within a beam set configuration with two prime movers pulling from the front and two prime movers pushing from behind. The overall transport vehicle measured 108 m in length, 7.3 m wide, 5 m high, and weighed 558 tonnes.

With a maximum speed of 30 km/h(16.4 mp/h), the generator moved through the streets of Melbourne and along public roads to the project site.

Upon arrival at the Loy Yang power station, the trailer was disassembled and the generator was jacked up and suspended for placement on its waiting pad area.
