Mammoet craning to new heights

Mammoet has recently completed a series of heavy lifting activities at Lotte Chemical's monoethylene glycol (MEG) project in Louisiana, USA.

Mammoet utilised its largest crane, the PTC 200 DS to carry out the 62 lifts, which ranged from 30 tons (27.2 tonnes) to 1,600 tons (1,451.5 tonnes) in weight.

The largest lift was a wash tower, which had a height of over 100 m. After this lift was completed, the PTC 200 DS was reconfigured to include an additional 220 ft (67 m), bringing the total reach of the crane to 713 ft (217 m) - the tallest the PTC has ever been on a job site.

The new configuration meant the crane could stay in that same location and perform lifts of the modules located outside of the original lifting radius - keeping lifting activities consistent and eliminating the otherwise necessary crane relocation time.

The MEG plant is expected to open in 2019, and will be the largest of its kind, with a capacity of 700,000 tons (635,029 tonnes) of monoethylene glycol per year.
