Mammoet moves for Dangote

Mammoet has transported various heavy components for the Dangote oil refinery project in Lagos, Nigeria.

As HLPFI reported here, Mammoet secured the contract to provide heavy lifting and transport solutions for the project in 2018.

This has included the transport of a 3,000-ton (2,721.6-tonne) regenerator, which Mammoet claims is the heaviest item to be transported over public roads in Africa. Measuring 56 m x 23 m x 25 m, the unit was rolled off the vessel at the Dangote Quay Lekki, which has been built for this project, using 108 axle lines of SPMTs.

Similarly, a 1,673-ton (1,517.7-tonne) reactor, measuring 44 m x 16 m x 17 m, was transported using 78 axle lines of SPMTs from the quay to the project site, a distance of approximately 10 km.

Lifting and installation of the refinery equipment will commence later this month.

For the project, Mammoet has mobilised mobile and crawler cranes ranging in capacity from 250 tonnes to 1,250 tonnes. The heavy lift specialist will also utilise its largest heavy lift ring cranes – the PTC 200 DS and PT 50 – for the project.
