Townsville see first of six pipe shipments

A shipment of 564 pipes has been delivered to the port of Townsville as part of the northern Australian city’s Haughton Pipeline Duplication Project (HPDP).

The glass-reinforced polyester pipes, measuring 1.8 m in diameter, arrived on board the vessel Eckert Oldendorff and will be unloaded onto trucks that will take them to the laydown yard in nearby Bohle, en route to the project site.

According to Northern Stevedoring Services (NSS), which will handle the discharge operations, there will be six shipments of pipes from their production site in Adelaide.

The AUD215 million (USD115.2 million) project involves the duplication of a fully functioning and sustainable 36.5 km pipeline from the Haughton Pump Station to the Ross River Dam. The HPDP tender was awarded to Iplex Pipelines in April 2018.
