Turbines put wind in O'Neill’s sales

O’Neill’s Heavy Haulage has transported six wind turbine blades, measuring 50 m in length, from the port of Galway to the Ballincurry wind farm, Ireland.

The blades were shipped into the west coast port on board one of Enercon's vessels as a part shipment along with a wind turbine that was destined for the Rossaveal wind farm.

From Galway, the company transported the blades across country via Dublin to a storage facility in Littleton. Individual blades were subsequently loaded onto a Scheuerle modular trailer equipped with a blade adaptor for onward transportation to Ballincurry.

Along the route, O'Neills used the adaptor to raise the blades over houses in order for the convoy to manoeuvre around corners. Upon arrival at the project site, O’Neill’s Heavy Haulage utilised a 6 X 6 tow truck attached to a tractor unit to climb a slope with a 19 degree gradient.

O’Neill’s Heavy Haulage is also responsible for the transport of the towers and generators for the Ballincurry wind farm, as well as the cargo destined for the Rossaveal wind farm.
