Bright Sky marks milestone for Maydon Wharf

February 17 - Maydon Wharf (MW), at the port of Durban, South Africa, has completed renovations at berths MW 1, 2, 13 and 14, with MACS Maritime Carrier Shipping's Bright Sky marking the completion as the first vessel to utilise the refurbished berth.

Berths MW 1, 2, 13 and 14 were decommissioned at the end of 2014 and the work to refurbish the terminal commenced. Once the reconstruction work at berths MW 1 and 2 had been completed in October 2016, berths MW 3 and 4 were decommissioned for repairs.

Rehabilitation work on berths MW 13 and 14 was completed in January and Bright Sky utilised the refurbished berth to discharge 2,500 tonnes of fertiliser and 5,000 tonnes of sodium sulphate.

According to MACS, Bright Sky was also the vessel which brought in the first load of sheet piles and beams required during the reconstruction of the quay walls.

The terminal was previously designed for vessels up to 20,000 dwt and a maximum draught of 9.6 m.
