November 20 - BBC Chartering has introduced a low sulphur surcharge and revealed the costs, which will become effective on December 15, 2014.

Further to the news posted by HLPFI on October 23 regarding BBC's plans to introduce a low sulphur surcharge to offset additional costs incurred by switching to cleaner fuels in sulphur emission control areas (ECAs), the shipping line has now revealed the cost of the new regulations.

BBC's low sulphur surcharge (LSS) is applicable on all of the company's liner services to the north coast, east coast and west coast of South America, Middle East and Asia, for cargo loading or discharging in the USA and in North Europe/Baltic.

The company's low sulphur surcharges are as follows: USD8.50 w/m for breakbulk cargo; USD50 per 20 ft container; and USD100 per 40 ft container.
