September 29 - CEA Project Logistics has begun the transport of equipment for the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) Purple Line Project - a 23 km elevated heavy rail transit system being constructed in Bangkok, Thailand.
The MRT Purple Line will comprise of 16 elevated stations positioned along the route, and aims to serve travel demand between the north western suburbs of Bangkok and the southern areas of the city.
A total of 21 train sets, each consisting of three carriages, will be shipped to Thailand's Laem Chabang port from Yokohama, Japan, before being transported to the MRT depot in Bangkok.
The first six carriages for the project have arrived in Bangkok, while the second shipment has now been delivered to Laem Chabang. The motor carriages weigh in at 40 tonnes each and the trailer carriages at 34 tonnes, with both units measuring 21.5 m long.
Cargo will continue to be transported for the project over the next six months.
The scope of CEA's work includes port supervision at Laem Chabang; Customs clearance for the trains and lifting equipment; transportation of the trains and equipment to the CEA free trade zone; unloading of the carriages onto storage blocks; loading of the trains onto trailers for delivery to the MRT depot; and unloading of the trains in Bangkok using 15-tonne capacity jacks.
