All change at Schenker

August 4 - Jochen Thewes has been appointed the new chairman of the Schenker AG board of management, in which role he will lead the DB Schenker Logistics business unit.

Thewes most recently served as DB Schenker ceo in Singapore, and before that as vice president of global ocean freight, based in Germany. Before joining DB Schenker, Thewes held various senior management positions at Kuehne + Nagel.

In his new role as Schenker ceo, Thewes replaces management board member for transportation and logistics at DB Schenker Mobility Logistics, Karl-Friedrich Rausch, who held the position on an interim basis and has now left the company after 14 years.

This news comes on the back of Deutsche Bahn launching an extensive restructuring programme for the German group.

The programme aims to reduce the number of group management board members from eight to six; merge DB Mobility Logistics with the group's holding company; reassign the current technology and environment division; and modify the allocation of duties on the management board.

As part of these changes, DB Schenker Rail will join DB Long Distance, DB Regio and DB Sales in the company's new traffic and transport division.

The service functions and DB internal services will also be reorganised and brought together in a DB Global Service Centre. In addition, the option will be available for DB Arriva and DB Schenker Logistics to become partially privatised, in order to boost strategic development and finance further growth.
