Blue Water's Filipino challenge

September 8 - Blue Water Shipping has handled the transport and storage of wind components for a major wind turbine project in the province of Ilocos Norte in the Philippines.

The challenging assembly of the turbines high up in the hills required a special transport solution, said Blue Water.

The turbine components are barged to a temporary jetty, which was constructed on a beach close to the site, and then trucked to their final destination at the Caparispisan wind farm.

"It is a very big logistical challenge with a lot of heavy equipment which we are trying to bring to a very remote location. You are trying to do something which has not been done before," said Brian Caffyn, chairman for UPC Renewables, the developer behind the wind park.

Blue Water's involvement includes around 250 lifts of nacelles, hubs, towers and blades, in addition to airfreight of electrical components and transport, plus the skidding of transformers.
