Boskalis doubles up

Boskalis has secured a pair of contracts, one in El Salvador and a second in its home market of the Netherlands.

Energia del Pacifico (EDP) contracted Boskalis to connect an offshore floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) to an onshore power plant in El Salvador.

EDP is a 378 MW LNG-to-power infrastructure project at the port of Acajutla. This project entails the construction of a 2 km-long gas pipeline from an onshore power plant to an offshore FSRU, including the mooring and hook-up. It includes include the construction of a micro-tunnel from the power plant into the sea and the the dredging of an offshore pipeline trench.

Boskalis will pull a 24-inch pipeline through the tunnel and trench. At the offshore location, a riser will be installed to connect the FSRU to the pipeline, in addition to an anchor spread with 11 anchors to permanently moor the FSRU in position. The last phase involves the physical mooring of the FSRU and its hook-up.

The project will commence early 2020 and is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2021. Boskalis said the contract has a value of EUR30-150 million (USD55.4-166.3 million).

In separate news, Boskalis was awarded a multi-year maintenance dredging contract in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, that will ensure continued safe access to the port. The contract was awarded by the port of Rotterdam and the Department of Public Works (Rijkswaterstaat).

The three-year contract commences in March 2020, and could be extended for another five years. Maintenance dredging will take place in the Maasmond/Maasgeul in the access channel and inner port basins of the port.
