Here is this week's round up of capital projects and contracts. Over the past few days we have seen Alstom reject a takeover from Siemens and Mitsubishi in favour of GE's USD17 billion bid, Technip securing projects on the Danish Continental Shelf, and Le

The Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) has won a USD300 million contract for the construction of pipelines for two sections of Doha's Mega Reservoir Corridor Main 1 (Packages A & B) for KAHRAMAA - Qatar's General Electricity and Water Corporation.

HLG will be responsible for the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 120 km of 16 cm diameter ductile iron pipes and fittings. Works also include trench excavation, backfilling and construction of all valve chambers.

Maersk Oil awarded Technip two contracts for the Valdemar & Roar Gas Lift project as well as the Rolf Replacement Pipeline project, located on the Danish Continental Shelf. Technip's operating centre in Oslo, Norway, will execute the project.

ABB has completed the sale of Power-One's Power Solutions business to Bel Fuse Inc. It divested Power Solutions because of few synergies with ABB's other businesses.

Alstom (49 percent) agreed a joint venture with Soyuz Holding (51 percent) to manufacture and commercialise high voltage switchgear as part of on-going efforts to modernise the Russian electrical grid.

The deal includes the continued manufacture of 110-220 kV circuit breakers and also of the world's first 500 kV circuit breakers that can operate at temperatures down to -60 °C. A wider range of products, including disconnectors and gas-insulated substations, will be produced at Soyuz's High Voltage Switchgear Factory at Mozhaisk, near Moscow.

Furthermore, the company ahs also secured a EUR250 million contract to modernise London Underground's high voltage electrical systems.

A consortium composed of Alstom and QDVC has been awarded a contract by Qatar Railways Company (QRAIL) to supply a turnkey tramway system for a 4-line tram network in Lusail, Qatar.

The 4-line network will cross the city covering a distance of 33 km, including 7 km underground and 37 stations. The system is expected to enter commercial service from 2018.

Alstom's share of the contract is around EUR750 million including options for 32 additional tramways.

C.A.T. oil AG, a leading provider of oil and gas field services in Russia and Kazakhstan, has signed a framework agreement with Gazprom Neft on drilling and hydraulic fracturing services that guarantees full utilization of four new drilling rigs and one new fracturing fleet until end of 2016

Foster Wheeler reveled that a subsidiary of its Global Engineering and Construction Group has signed an EPCm services agreement with for the installation of replacement heat exchangers at its Teesport facility in northeast England.

The company has also been awarded a contract by Glencore Oil Projects AG for the engineering and material supply of a steam reformer heater for hydrogen production for the Orsknefteorgsyntez Refinery at Orsk, Russia.

Leighton Group and its partners in the Northwest Rapid Transit Consortium (NRT) have been selected by the New South Wales Government as preferred operator to deliver the operations, trains and systems (OTS) package for the North West Rail Link (NWRL) in Sydney.

The NWRL is the first stage of Sydney Rapid Transit, Sydney's brand new railway network. Working with the state government in an availability-based Public Private Partnership (PPP), NRT will procure rolling stock and design, build, finance, and then operate the NWRL's 36km rapid transit train service for a 15 year period.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Environmental & Chemical Engineering Co has received an order from the Otokuni Clean Plaza for modification work to improve core equipment at a municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration plant.

Siemens has secured a deal from Bharat Heavy Electricals to supply gear units for coal-fired power plants in India.
The Flender gear units from Siemens are deployed in vertical mills with an output of 800 and 1000 kW, which are used for coal grinding in the power plants.

CB&I has been awarded a five-year contract by Exelon Generation Company, LLC valued at approximately USD800 million for long-term maintenance, modification and construction services for five additional nuclear power units located in New York and Maryland.

It has also secured a USD500 million contract from Indianapolis Power & Light Company for the EPC of a combined-cycle gas turbine power station near Martinsville, Indiana.

Siemens in a consortium with MMC Engineering Services Sdn Bhd (MMCES) of Malaysia has received an order from Petronas for the turnkey construction of the Pengerang Co-generation Plant (PCP) in Malaysia.

Siemens will undertake the turnkey construction of the PCP, which comprises four co-generation units along with a long-term maintenance and services contract. Each unit comes with an H class gas turbine, a waste-heat recovery steam generator, a steam turbine, associated mechanical and electrical systems and the instrumentation and control system.

KCA Deutag has been awarded a USD90 million contract by Russia's Lukoil for the supply of two arctic cluster slider rigs in the northern republic of Komi. The first rig deployed is an existing rig from within KCA Deutag's Russian operations and the second will be a new-build rig.

The board of directors of Alstom has unanimously recommended that its shareholders accept GE's bid for the company, and reject a rival offer from Siemens and MHI.

GE will acquire Alstom Power & Grid businesses for around USD17 billion and will  establish three joint ventures: nuclear, renewables and grid. GE will sell its signaling division to Alstom for about USD825 million.
