DS Lausnir lifts with Modulift

Icelandic crane rental company DS Lausnir lifted a 45-tonne boat in Hafnarfjörður using Modulift spreader beams.

To lift the boat, Lausnir deployed a 250-tonne capacity Grove GMK 5250 from its fleet of mobile cranes. The vessel, measuring 5.5 m wide and 13 m long, was lifted from the dockside into the sea for manufacturer Trefjar.

DS Lausnir utilised 12 m-long, 20-tonne capacity slings and a frame comprised of MOD 50 beams, below the hook. Struts from the beam were combined with four corner units to complete the CMOD modular spreader frame.

Daníel Sigurðarson, owner of DS Lausnir, said: “It was an easy choice as there is no other approved beam in Iceland that can handle a heavy lift like this.”

Sigurðarson explained that the engine of the boat, situated at its rear, created a slightly offset centre of gravity that had to be factored into the lift plans. Trefjar provided detailed specifications in advance of the lift so the appropriate lifting and rigger gear could be organised well in advance of the day of the lift.
