Enerpac gantry in clinical lift

Industrial installation company Lifthing has used an Enerpac SBL500 gantry to install three proton therapy units at the University Hospitals Leuven (UZ Leuven) in Belgium.

Two 57-tonne synchrocyclotrons and a 75-tonne therapy unit were skidded along the Enerpac SBL500 gantry's skid tracks before being lowered into a research bunker and clinical treatment bunker at the Belgian hospital's Particle Therapy Interuniversity Center (ParTICLe) - a scientific collaboration between five university hospitals.

“Gentle and accurate handling was essential when handling the synchrocyclotrons and therapy unit,” said Pieterjan Van Iseghem, managing director of Lifthing. “The Enerpac SBL500 gantry, equipped with header beam, powered side shifts and wireless control, gave us the lifting capability and precise positioning we needed for this important project.”
