Flying down to Rio for safer heavy lift operations

September 15 - An opportunity to learn more about the safe and secure handling of heavy lift consignments has now become available with the launch of a one-day Heavy Transport & Lifting mini-seminar to be held in November in Rio de Janeiro.

The seminar builds on the success of a similar conference held in The Netherlands where more than 25 participants from 11 countries attended. The one day mini-seminar in Rio de Janeiro will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009 from 08.30 to 17.30 at a location yet to be announced.

Organiser Richard L Krabbendam, heavy lift specialist, says: "These seminars are ideal for freight forwarders, heavy transport and crane hire companies, marine warranty surveyors, logistical departments, insurance companies, equipment operators, sales engineers and any one involved in handling heavy lifts."

Attendees at the July seminar came from engineering contractors and consultants, freight forwarders, marine surveyors, insurance companies, terminal operators, transport and crane contractors, as well as wind turbine manufacturers from the Netherlands, Australia, Abu Dhabi, Spain, Ireland, Nigeria, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and the UK.

Meanwhile, a second Dutch conference will be held on 30th and 31st of October 2009 and is already rapidly filling up with participants, says Krabbendam.

He says: "I urge personnel in the heavy lift sector to use this opportunity to network and learn more about handling heavy lifts safely in order to avoid accidents and costly delays in the near future. Let's make the industry safer!"

The cost for the one day Rio mini-seminar is €350/person (USD450), including lunch buffet, refreshments and a detailed hand-out with 200 slides of the six presentations as well as double DVD of video documentaries on heavy transport and lifting projects.

The cost of the two day Holland seminar is €750/person, including dinner on Friday evening as well as a detailed handout of all 11 presentations and double DVD with three hours of video documentaries on heavy transport and lifting projects.

Both seminars will be presented in English.
