Getting the beers in for Haiti

Germany-based forwarder and Latin American specialist Schryver has handled a door-to-door delivery of bottling equipment for a brewery in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

While some of the cargoes originated in Mexico and were shipped on container vessels, the majority of the equipment was sourced from the client’s factory in Germany.

19 crates, measuring up to 5.4 m wide and 4.8 m high, and 50 of the shipper’s own containers were loaded onto a part-chartered vessel at the Rhenus deepsea terminal in Rotterdam. In total 6,500 cu m of cargo was loaded in Europe.

Caribbean specialist carrier, Nirint Shipping, reached Haiti’s Port Lafito in 20 days.

With Customs formalities carried out prior to the vessel’s arrival, Schryver, in cooperation with its project partner C Logistics Solutions, based in the Dominican Republic, began moving the cargoes to the project site in Port-au-Prince by road, covering a distance of 45 km.

According to Schryver, the route from Port Lafito was considerably longer than the 7 km journey required from Port-au-Prince state-owned terminal to the project site, but it avoided crossing Haiti’s congested capital.

The cargoes from Mexico were discharged directly at Port-au-Prince, where Schryver handled the expected delays in Customs clearance and final delivery.
