JAL, which no longer has its own full freighter operations, will have access to Silk Way West’s scheduled routes to Japan. Silk Way West is also poised to increase its weekly connections out of its global hub in Baku, Azerbaijan to Japan from three to four times a week.

At the same time, Silk Way West said it would increase its services between Baku and Europe.

Wolfgang Meier, ceo and president of Silk Way West Airlines, said: “[The cooperation agreement] perfectly fits into the growth strategy we are pursuing in reference to our footprint in Japan. Right from the start of our Japan services more than two years ago, we have always been eager to increase our exposure.”

Katsutoshi Tanaka will lead Silk Way West’s activities in Japan to further develop the strategic partnership.
