Kobelco giants join MIC

April 20 - Kobelco Construction Machinery celebrated the handover of three 1,250-tonne capacity SL16000J-H crawler cranes to its longstanding customer, Japan's MIC Corporation, at the bauma exhibition in Munich last week.

The SL16000J-H crane is one of the largest crawlers in Japan, claims Kobelco, with a maximum lifting capacity of 1,250 tonnes at a radius of 10 m in super heavy lift configuration. The model has 95 m maximum main boom and 85 m luffing jib.

Compliant with Japanese transportation regulations, the crane is intended for use in a wide variety of heavy lifting operations, including at power plant and bridge construction sites, said the manufacturer.

The handover ceremony at bauma was attended by MIC president, Eikichi Oyama, and Kazuhide Naraki, new president and ceo of Kobelco Construction Machinery, which now includes Kobelco Cranes after the two Kobe Steel subsidiaries completed their merger at the beginning of April.

The bauma show also saw Kobelco celebrate the official handover of 17 new cranes to heavy lift specialist Mammoet with a traditional Japanese sake ceremony.

As reported by HLPFI on April 8, the ordered cranes include three 110-tonne capacity CKE1100-2 models, seven 150-tonne capacity CKE1350G-2 models, five 250-tonne capacity CKE2500G-2 cranes, and two first-generation CKE2500G model, each with a maximum lifting capacity of 250 tonnes.

On show at bauma was the first of the 17 units, featuring a 48.8 m luffing boom with 70-tonne hook block and 48.8 m luffing jib with 35-tonne ball hook.
