Pilot rail run for RZD

June 19 - Russian Railways (RZD) Logistics has organised the multimodal delivery of 60 m long rails produced by JSC EVRAZ Consolidated West Siberian Metallurgical Plant, from Russia to Germany for testing at the Deutsche Bahn facility in Meckelfeld-Seevet

The rails were transported 4,200 km through Russia using universal rolling stock on the country's broad 1,520 mm rail gauge, before the cargo was transhipped onto a rail ferry at the port of Ust-Luga for shipment to the German port of Sassnitz.

In Sassnitz, RZD organised the transshipment of the cargo onto the standard European gauge wagons, in cooperation with its European partners.

The company used lifting beams, which were brought to the port from other regions in Germany, in order to avoid damage and bending of the thin, long cargo while handling.

The cargo was finally delivered to Meckelfeld-Seevetal, where the rails will be tested at Deutsche Bahn's rail welding plant, to ensure that the rail tracks meet German requirements.

This was the pilot run of rail shipments from Russia to Germany, and if the tests are successful, large-scale shipments of tracks will be allowed to take place in the future.
