Proud moment for Manitowoc

September 24 - Manitowoc Cranes has delivered its 400th Manitowoc 2250 crawler crane to Fincantieri Marine Group's Bay Shipbuilding Division, located in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.

Matt Borchardt, regional business manager at Manitowoc, said that the handover of the 400th 2250 model is a momentous occasion for the company, especially considering that Bay Shipbuilding was formally a unit of the Manitowoc Company.

Thomas Martin, director of purchasing and facilities at Bay Shipbuilding, added that the company will primarily use the 2250 for the ship-repair portion of its business.

Manitowoc says that the 2250 has seen success in industries across the board, thanks to its mid-range capacity and 300 ft (91.4 m) boom. A surge in energy projects in North America, for example, has driven Cleveland, Ohio based ALL Erection to employ a large fleet of 2250s on several projects.

The Manitowoc 2250 offers a standard 300-tonne capacity, which can be increased to 500 tonnes with the MAX-ER attachment, or increased all the way up to 1,433 tonnes with a RINGER attachment. The crane's reach can also be extended to over 400 ft (121.9 m) with a luffing jib attachment.

Bay Shipbuilding purchased the milestone crane from American State Equipment, which began selling Grove cranes in 1961 and added Manitowoc crawlers to its lineup in 2005.
