Rapid Response slides in Jersey

Rapid Response Solutions (RRS) has moved two 50-tonne transformers into their final position for Jersey Electricity's GBP17 million (USD24 million) substation project in Jersey.

RRS used a 150-tonne capacity hydraulic turntable from Hydra-Slide; a Hydra-Pac power unit; and eight 100-tonne capacity support stands to complement its 270-tonne capacity HT300 skidding system.

The system was used in conjunction with a 310-tonne capacity LP350 skid system and AS450 alignment shoes, used for the final positioning of loads.

The transformers, which were manufactured in Italy by Tironi, measured 6 m x 2.6 m x 3 m. The transformers were jacked up on trailers in order to put the turntable underneath, with which RSS turned the units 90 degrees.

The turntable was then replaced with the HT300. Using the skidding system, the transformers were moved off the trailer and through the doorway of the facility.

Once in the building, the units were jacked up off the HT300 and placed onto the LP350 for the final 9 m slide onto the foundation slabs. Once on the slabs, the LP350 was removed and the alignment shoes employed for final positioning.
