Terex lifts giant jackup legs for offshore vessels

October 19 - On behalf of Lloyd-Werft Bremerhaven, the Sarens Group recently lifted two sets of four gigantic jackup legs onto two offshore installation vessels belonging to RWE OLG, a logistics company that is part of RWE Innogy at the port of Bremerhave

The 630-tonne, 78 metre-long steel legs, which enable installation vessels to lift themselves up from the water while installing wind turbines, were lifted onto the vessels by two Terex CC 6800 Crawler cranes with the assistance of a floating crane.

The two self-elevating installation vessels designed for erecting offshore wind farms - the Victoria Mathias and its identical sister ship the Friedrich Ernestine - had arrived from the South Korean shipyard in February 2012, but without their jackup legs as it was considered easier to ship them separately.

Heavy lift and transportation services provider the Sarens Group and its specialists were specifically chosen for the challenging task of installing the legs.
