May 27 - Nicolas has designed, manufactured and delivered a bespoke self-propelled heavy transporter - the Multiwheeler - for Russian Gas Turbines (RGT).

RGT's conditions were that the Nicolas Multiwheeler have an especially low platform height compared to conventional self-propelled transporters with hydraulic suspension systems.

The trailer, which can carry up to 120 tonnes, also had to be able to manoeuvre within limited space at the RGT facilities, as well as position the load on a special test bench with a very low distance limit on the platform edges.

Since its delivery to Russia, the transporter has been performing well, said Alwin Radtke, area manager, sales at TII Sales. He added that this type of Nicolas vehicle is the first to be sold to Russia.

The Nicolas Multiwheeler can be operated in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 40°C and humidity levels of up to 100 percent. As well as enabling the transfer of gas turbines between the assembly factory and the test and painting workshops, the transporter is also used to store and transfer turbines to shipping areas.

RGT is a joint venture company of GE, Inter RAO and Rostec subsidiary United Engine Corporation.
