November 11 - FPS Dalian - a member of the Famous Pacific Shipping Group - has handled eight shipments of brand new electric passenger train units for the Brazilian rail network so far in 2014.

FPS Dalian will transport a ninth shipment before the end of the year. The passenger train carriages are part of an ongoing update and expansion programme for the Brazilian rail network ahead of the 2016 Olympics.

A total of 32 units will have been shipped by the end of 2014, and a further 38 will follow throughout 2015 to complete the order. Each shipment comprises of four electric multiple units, each consisting of four cars.

The individual carriages measure 24 m in length and weigh up to 50 tonnes, with the total shipment weighing up to 800 tonnes.

FPS managed the road transportation of all units on their 800 km overland journey to the Chinese port of Bayuquan, where the cargo was loaded onto chartered vessels for shipment to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Previous major rail car shipments handled by FPS Dalian have included 280 new units for Brazil, and 240 used units - formerly rolling stock from the Chinese railway system - for Pakistan.
