Modulift's giant rig resolves wind turbine moves

August 23 - Modulift has designed and manufactured the giant lifting rig used for the fast and efficient lifting and assembly of Repower's 5MW wind turbines at Harland and Wolff's yard in Northern Ireland.

Responsible for the unloading and assembly of the clean power generators for Vattenfall's Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm Project in the Irish Sea, Harland and Wolff also has to load them back onto the barges when assembled, for installation in the Irish Sea.

This created a need for a rig that could multi-task and Modulift duly delivered.

The Modulift range comprises 16 systems, which provide lifting capacity for weights between 2 - 5,000 tonnes and lengths from 200 mm - 53 m. The system is used for the smallest maintenance work to the largest lifting jobs in many industry sectors.

Modulift says it currently has sales and rental customers in the construction, maritime, offshore, oil and gas, industrial and aerospace industries. All utilise the modular system to enable the lifting of various loads, without the need to buy or rent new spreader beams for every different job.

The company's range also consists of a series of accessories that provide efficient support to the spreader range. These include shackles and slings, logistics cradles, semi spreaders and step down end units and cone adaptors.
