Mammoet inks P-76 contract

March 31 - Mammoet Brazil has signed a contract with the consortium Techint-Technip (CTTP76) for the lifting of 20 modules onto the hull of the Petrobas P-76 floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.

Mammoet will handle the weighing, transportation and lifting of the modules, each weighing up to 1,935 tonnes. Integration of the modules on the P-76 hull is scheduled to begin in June or July of this year.

"For this extreme heavy lifting task Mammoet will mobilise its PTC 200-DS which is currently in the USA," explained Michel Booden, sales director for Mammoet Latin America. The ring crane will be broken down into parts and shipped in containers from the USA to Brazil.

The PTC 200-DS ring crane has already completed a number of FPSO module installation operations in the past, noted Mammoet. It has a long reach, small footprint and is capable of 360-degree turns, added the company.

Mammoet will also deploy 78 axle lines of self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) and weighing equipment for the project. Installation work will be carried out at the Techint offshore yard in Paranaguá in Brazil's Paraná State.

HLPFI reported in February that Aqualis Offshore had been contracted by Cantex Global Logistics to provide marine warranty surveyor services for the transportation of the P67 and P70 FPSO topside modules from various Brazilian ports to Qingdao, China.

Aqualis has already completed services for the load-out of modules on BigLift Shipping's vessel Happy Star, and has overseen the load-out for another three vessels in Brazil.

A total of 29 topside modules for the two FPSOs will be transported in eight shipments from Brazil to China, with the heaviest modules weighing in at around 1,650 tonnes.
