US and Japan agree trade deal

The USA and Japan have reached a trade agreement regarding market access for certain agricultural and industrial goods.

According to the US Department of Homeland Security, the USA will reduce or eliminate tariffs on 241 lines of goods. For industrial goods from Japan, this applies to certain machine tools, fasteners and steam turbines, among others.

This agreement entered force on January 1, 2020. The US Department of Homeland Security said that the two nations plan to negotiate further with the goal of establishing an expanded free trade agreement.
