Vancouver, USA secures funds for port improvements

May 20 - The Port of Vancouver, USA is to receive a USD800,000 loan from the Washington State Community Economic Development Revitalization Board to improve port facilities.

In a statement, the port said the money will be used to renovate a building previously occupied by Panasonic, which withdrew from Vancouver in 2008. Aluminum extrusion company Sapa Profiles, Inc is expected to take over the facility.

"This loan will allow us to make necessary building improvements to attract a major employer to the region, and help bring nearly 100 family-wage jobs to Clark County where unemployment is still hovering near 13 percent," said Port of Vancouver executive director Larry Paulson.

"Sapa Profiles, Inc. has a proven track record of success with tremendous potential for growth and will be a valuable new business in Clark County and Washington State."

The Port of Vancouver is the confirmed front cover sponsor of HLPFI's first supplement on heavy lift ports and terminals, to be published in our September/October edition. This will be our third supplement, following the one on ships and shipping lines that is included in the current issue, and the second on airlines and air charter brokers in our July/August edition.
