November 10 - Danish shipping company Ocean7 Projects is handling the shipment of two rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) from Gydnia, Poland to Bejaia in Algeria on board Abis Shipping's vessel Arctic Dawn.

The two RTGs, each of which weighed 162 tonnes and measured 30.7 m high, were loaded on board the Netherlands-flagged vessel Arctic Dawn, which Ocean7 Projects is operating for Abis.

"When we got the request for lifting the RTG's in our heavy lift vessels, which are equipped with 150-tonne lifting capacities, our first thought was that it would be one of the bigger challenges for our slim vessels," said Ronni Joensen, cargo manager at Ocean7 Projects.

Arctic Dawn is sailing via northern Denmark to Bejaia, where the RTG's are going to be discharged and put to work in the local container market. From there the vessel will continue to other European harbours to discharge the rest of its cargo.

Stefan Nordby Petersen, managing director of Ocean7 Projects, said that loading such large units onto its small heavy lift vessels was a particularly proud achievement for the company.
