Rhenus expands with RBG

November 14 - Mierka Beteiligungs (MBG), port operator at the Danube Port of Krems, has changed its name to Rhenus Beteiligungs (RBG).

The rebrand comes ahead of the planned departure of Hubert Mierka, managing partner in the spring of next year, and an organisational restructuring that will see Rhenus become the sole shareholder.

Rhenus, which currently has a 51 percent holding of the company, plans to acquire the remaining shares in February 2018, providing the competition authorities approve the deal.

Rhenus board member Michael Viefers will take over the position of managing director of RBG.

Former MBG subsidiaries have also been renamed as part of the planned change in ownership. Mierka Donauhafen Krems is now known as Rhenus Donauhafen Krems; Rhenus Mierka Danube Shipping has been renamed Rhenus Danube Shipping. Rhenus Logistics Austria, however, is retaining its name.

Michael Appelhans, who is responsible for the seaports and inland waterway ports within Rhenus, is taking on the role of managing director of Rhenus Donauhafen Krems alongside Gerhard Gussmagg.

"The Danube region is a dynamic business area with a great deal of development potential, particularly in the multimodal sphere. We can integrate the Danube Port of Krems in our existing broad network of ports for our customers in a beneficial manner," said Appelhans.
