October 24 - Royal Wagenborg of Delfzijl, the Netherlands has taken delivery of the Veersediep, the first of seven multipurpose ships that it will add to its fleet over the coming months.

Renamed Zijlborg, the ship has been repainted in the Wagenborg colours at the Royal Niestern Sander shipyard.

Classified as ice class 1A and equipped with two box-shaped holds of 39 m and 42.8 m, Zijlborg (7,200 dwt) is suitable for worldwide trade carrying various cargoes such as forest products, breakbulk and bulk.

The ship is 118.85 m in length, has a cargo capacity of 328,949 cu ft (9314 cu m).

 

 

In separate news, Wagenborg has performed a tandem lift to launch a tugboat weighing 253 tonnes.

Prior to the tandem lift, Wagenborg transferred the Wild Maa, measuring 29 m in length and 10.3 m in width, from its construction hall to the quayside using 14 axle lines of conventional trailers.

At the quayside, two 700-tonne mobile cranes lifted the tugboat from the conventional trailers and carefully positioned the boat in the water at Groningen, the Netherlands.

After the launch, the tugboat was towed to Waterhuizen in the Netherlands, where the final construction work will be completed.
