Mining machine heads for mountains

July 17 - Universal Transport has shipped a 400-tonne Komatsu construction machine from Germany's Rhineland to a mine in the west of Russia's Sayan Mountains.

The machine was shipped in 21 sections, with the largest weighing 58 tonnes and measuring 8.4 m x 4.5 m x 4 m. The machine's crawler tracks also weighed in at 54.5 tonnes and had the dimensions 8.85 m x 2.7 m x 2.5 m.

At the manufacturing facility in Germany, the machine parts were loaded onto various low-bed trailers, semi-trailers and heavy-duty trailers for road transport to the port of Antwerp.

On arrival at the Belgian gateway, the cargo was reloaded onto Mafi trailers and loaded onto a ro-ro vessel for shipment to the port of St Petersburg.

Once Customs clearance had been obtained, the machine parts were loaded back onto trucks and delivered by road over 4,500 km to the opencast mining site in southern Siberia.
