Yamal LNG comes ashore

October 4 - Mammoet has offloaded the last modules of the first of three liquefaction trains being developed at the Yamal LNG facility on the Yamal peninsular in Russia.

Mammoet reports that the modules had been arriving over the last two years and adds that the first of three liquefaction trains is now in its commissioning phase.

Many shipping lines, including RedBox Energy Services, have been involved in the transport of 150 modules from Asia to the facility in Sabetta.

Located in the Arctic, one of the project's greatest challenges has been the extreme weather conditions, with RedBox deploying its two ice-breaking vessels, capable of navigating year round above the Arctic Circle, to transport some of the modules.

Mammoet says the offloading operations were executed in temperatures ranging from 35ºC during the Arctic summer, to 40ºC in the winter months.

In the coming months, Mammoet will install the remaining modules that are currently in storage at Yamal.

Yamal LNG, operated by a joint venture of Novatek, Total, CNPC and Silk Road Fund, is expected to be completed in 2019.
