April 2 - Global heavy lift and transport company ALE is claiming a world record with a recent project - the transport of a ship overland.
The transport, which took place in Dubai, UAE, required the use of 418 axles of SPMTs.
At 12,000 tonnes, ALE says that the ship move is the largest it has ever loaded-out on a single model of SPMTs (in this case manufactured by Scheuerle).
The purpose built jack up vessel named Brave Tern is designed for the offshore installation of both turbines and foundations.
ALE installed the SPMTs allowing it to move the ship from its temporary foundations in the fabrication yard within Jebel Ali Freezone and then transported it over one kilometre to the load-out quay.
Cameron Waugh general manager at ALE said: "It is always a great sense of achievement to perform a first for the company, but to achieve a first for the company on one of our projects proves how, through careful planning and a skilled workforce, we truly are pushing the boundaries in the heavy lift industry."
Once at the load-out area ALE rolled the vessel, complete with SPMTs, onto a semi submersible barge; Jebel Ali Pride, in readiness for float-off and subsequent deployment offshore.
