Ahlers scores hat-trick of successful project moves

March 28 - Belgian heavy lift material handling company Ahlers is celebrating a trio of successful projects that have helped a power plant construction, European cargo bound for a Chinese nuclear plant and a steel plant in Indonesia.

Building on its work at the end of 2010 in shipping the first part of a power plant construction project in Bangladesh from Antwerp to Chittagong, Ahlers Belgium shipped a second consignment of two units of cargo weighing 377 tonnes on a direct sailing to Mongla, Bangladesh. Ahlers China is currently in negotiations for the third lot, approximately 2,000 cu m for Chittagong.

Meanwhile, Ahlers Hong Kong handled import project cargoes from Europe into China for the Guangdong Taishan Nuclear Power Plant which is a JV between China Nuclear Power Group and Electricite De France (EDF).

The cargoes - engineering parts - are shipped firstly by break bulk or ro-ro to Hong Kong. The cargo, some of which measured over 15 m in length and over 8 m in width, is then transported by barge to the Taishan private terminal in South China.

Lastly, Ahlers Indonesia has successfully shipped 3,200 cu m of project cargoes for a steel plant from Kolkatta, India to Banjarmasin, Indonesia. The shipment had been expected on an earlier ship, which unfortunately could not perform. An alternative ship had to be found with the agreed laycan and freight level. With the help of the Chartering desk, theAtlant Frauke was sourced to carry the consignment.
