Virgin Atlantic links London with Tel Aviv

Virgin Atlantic will relaunch cargo-only flights from London, UK to Tel Aviv, Israel from May 6.

The twice weekly flights will utilise Virgin Atlantic’s Boeing 787-9, which offers up to 35 tonnes of bellyhold capacity. On the return flight from Tel Aviv, the morning arrival in London will enable same day transfers for shipments to and from prime markets in Hong Kong, South Africa, USA, and China.

Tel Aviv was introduced to Virgin Atlantic’s network in September 2019 prior to Covid-19, but was stopped when the airline decided to reduce its flying programme as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Relaunching the service will reopen trade lanes for pharmaceuticals, electronics and perishables, and will meet the growing demand for general cargo shipments to Tel Aviv, said Virgin Atlantic.

Dominic Kennedy, managing director at Virgin Atlantic Cargo, added: “Prior to the outbreak of Covid-19, our share of the Tel Aviv market was growing ahead of our expectations and, combined with the connections we can offer, we expect to see positive demand once again, especially to and from the USA, Israel’s biggest trading partner.”
