May 5 - BBC Chartering Australia has been named the first major sponsor for the Project Professionals Group's (PPG) tenth anniversary annual conference in Melbourne next year.

The conference will be held in Australia for the first time from September 6-8, 2017, at The Langham Hotel in Melbourne's Southbank Promenade entertainment precinct.

PPG general manager Kevin Stephens informed that BBC Chartering would deliver a presentation during the conference to update members about ocean carriage services and capabilities for heavy lift and project cargoes.

Stephens added that the conference sponsorship presentations would be very timely as Australia gears up to implement the federal government's planned AUD5 billion (USD3.7 billion) investment in major public transport projects.

"The Australian government's announcement that it will invest in major projects to develop new road, rail and infrastructure links is a shot in the arm for project forwarders with experience in supporting major engineering, procurement and construction managers," suggested Stephens.

He explained that two of the largest projects are set to be Melbourne Metro and Sydney Metro, which will share in half the funding.

Meanwhile, said PPG, registrations are now open for the next Project Forwarding Certificate held during the Breakbulk Americas education programme in Houston from September 26-27 this year, and Breakbulk Middle East in Abu Dhabi from October 23-24.
