November 18 - Bengal Electric has completed the discharge of a 219-tonne stator frame and a 119-tonne turbine in Bangladesh.

Mottakin Salam, deputy managing director at the company explained: "Bengal's customer for this project was Doosan - Skoda and the company required an urgent solution as another Bangladeshi logistics company had failed to unload the heavy cargo via a ro-ro operation.

"Since the ro-ro operation had proved too risky, we conducted further research and planning, and performed all the engineering to offer the solution of unloading using our 600-tonne capacity floating crane."

Bengal was required to mobilise all of its 250-tonne test blocks to complete the testing of the floating crane and receive certification from an international third party agency.

The company was then able to coordinate and mobilise the floating crane, as well as fabricate two heavy-duty spreader beams, which were used to help lift the two oversize units.

Bengal Electric is a member of the Project Cargo Network (PCN).
