Blue Water Shipping aids Tahkoluoto transport

May 5 - The Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm in Finland is being constructed with the help of Blue Water Shipping's machinery and special equipment.

Three reach stackers with a capacity to lift from 65 to 100 tons (60 to 90.8 tonnes), one truck, and a bespoke root end adaptor with dolly have been delivered to the Port of Mäntyluoto in Pori, Finland, to transport the 63 m blades.

The equipment has been designed by Blue Water Shipping's engineering department designed the equipment for the the handling of the blades at the quay and storage areas. Blue Water Shipping claims the equipment provides a cost-effective solution, as the client can avoid hiring extra workers to move the blades.

One of Blue Water Shipping's project managers is on site and acts as the connecting link between Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy, the company developing the wind farm, and the turbine manufacturer Siemens. During the next four months, Blue Water Shipping will also provide terminal assistants.

Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm is being built off the coast of the Finnish Port of Pori. According to Blue Water Shipping, it is the first offshore wind farm designed for icy conditions and consists of ten 4.2 MW turbines.
