August 9 - In response to the ongoing difficulties faced by shipping lines active in the multipurpose shipping sector, Briese Schiffahrts and Auerbach Schifffahrt have formed a strategic alliance and will cooperate more closely in the areas of project dev

From September 1, Lucius Bunk - one of the founders and ongoing executive partner at Auerbach Schifffahrt - will be appointed chief operating officer of the board of management at Briese Schifffahrt.

"For me, this alliance is the obvious next step," explained Roelf Briese founder of Briese Schiffahrt. "We have worked with Auerbach from the start. We trust the people who work for the company and are convinced that they understand their business. We are very pleased with the competent cooperation we have enjoyed to date. With Lucius Bunk our organisation will be strengthened by a young and dynamic colleague who will provide the right impulses for the development of the operative business."

At the same time, Rafal Mirski will be promoted to the senior management level at Auerbach Schifffahrt. Since joining the company in 2014, he has played a key role in developing the operative shipping arm of the business and will be continuing his work as managing director of Auerbach ship management. Shareholder and member of the board of advisors to Auerbach Schifffahrt, Stefan Cremer, welcomed the move, saying: "Close cooperation is the right signal to the industry. With fresh capital, strengthened management and impetus from Leer we will continue the solid and sustainable growth of Auerbach."

Briese Schiffahrts is based in Leer, Germany and was founded in 1983 and has a fleet today of around 150 ships focusing on multipurpose and heavy list shipping.  On of its subsidiaries, BBC Chartering, is the largest operator in the project chartering sector.

Auerbach Schifffahrt was founded in 2010, and is based in Hamburg, Germany. Its current fleet consists of six multipurpose freighters, which are mainly deployed in the project cargo sector. In 2013 a newbuilding project was initiated in collaboration with Briese Schiffarts and Krey Schifffahrt. Two ships are currently being built in China.
