January 29 - Buss Port Logistics is to cease operation of its Buss Hansa Terminal (BHT) in Hamburg at the end of 2016.

The multipurpose terminal, which handles project, breakbulk and heavy lift cargo, will not have its lease renewed after December 31, 2016. Accordingly, the company said that is currently in talks with the city of Hamburg to begin a transition period, in which its 90 employees will be able to gain additional qualifications in order to obtain new jobs in the Port of Hamburg after the terminal closes.

Once BHT has been closed, the quayside operations of Buss Port Logistics - stevedoring, packing, transport and logistics - will be taken over by the Port of Hamburg itself.

However, the company confirmed that the Buss Group headquarters, and its additional business units, would remain in the German port city.

Marco Neelsen, ceo of Buss Port Logistics, said that it is now important that the closure of the terminal and transitional period work as well as possible for the employees of BHT and the Port of Hamburg.

In addition to the C. Steinweg terminal, BHT was one of the main transit points for heavy project cargo in the German port.
