August 2 - Luxembourg headquartered all cargo carrier Cargolux Airlines International will inaugurate a new B747-8 service into Vienna, Austria, on August 3, 2013.

The service is an extension of the existing Saturday flight from Hanoi in Vietnam and Hong Kong. Both Asian cities are major production centres for the electronics industry and Cargolux anticipates this commodity to feature heavily on the Vienna route.

Vienna International airport is a traditional east-west cargo transfer hub and the gateway reports that it handled 60,036 tonnes of cargo in the first quarter of 2013. For Cargolux, Vienna is an important gateway to Eastern Europe - for many years it has enjoyed fast and reliable road feeder services, connecting the major industrial centers in Eastern Europe with Vienna and the airline's hub in Luxembourg.

With new Vienna service, Cargolux will be able to reduce trucking activities from Austria to Luxembourg and in turn reduce its impact on the environment.
