August 12 - Carisbrooke Shipping has added eight 8,000 dwt general cargo vessels to its commercial fleet.

The eight vessels - Tip Oslo, Tip Copenhagen, Tip Helsinki, Tip Bremen, Tip Stockholm, Tip Leer, Tip Emden and Cremona - will be commercially managed by Carisbrooke on behalf of their German and Norwegian shipowners.

The vessels, which were built between 2003 and 2008, are a mixture of single and tween deck ships, with some geared and some gearless models. The Tip vessels have Ice Class IA notations.

James McConachie, chartering director at Carisbrooke, said: "It is no secret that both bulk and multipurpose (MPP) shipping sectors continue to face challenging markets. Our segments have, if anything, become even more fragmented in recent years, and a degree of strategic tonnage consolidation is very much welcomed to maintain freight discipline, and to ensure successful and sustainable trading models."
