CIMC has started construction of Wallenius SOL’s LNG-powered ro-ro vessel at its shipyard in Yantai, China.

CIMC will build four ro-ro vessels for the recently formed joint venture between Wallenius and Swedish Orient Line (SOL). As HLPFI reported here, Wallenius SOL plans to service the northern European market with five ro-ro ships. The four vessels on order with CIMC will be delivered from 2021 and will replace existing tonnage.

The ships will measure 241.7 m long, 35.2 m wide and have a top speed of 20 knots. The ships will also meet Finnish-Swedish Ice Class 1A Super requirements.

In June, construction will begin on the second ship.
